Infinite Energy Steps Up for Kindergarteners

SWAG drive

Did you know that children who enter kindergarten unprepared are less likely to finish high school? Did you also know that twenty-five percent of Alachua County, Florida, children are not ready for kindergarten? That is why Infinite Energy and SWAG believe it is important for children to begin the school year prepared.

This summer, Infinite Energy held a school supply drive for the SW Advocacy Group in Gainesville, Florida. Throughout the two weeks of the drive, Infinite Energy also ran a social media campaign to raise money for the organization.

SWAG consists of a family resource center, a health clinic and a playground built in one of Gainesville’s low-income neighborhoods. Through these resources, SWAG is able to provide healthcare, childcare and early learning services to local under-served children.

Infinite Energy employees donated $1,120 and more than 400 school supplies. Along with the funds raised through the social media campaign and Infinite Energy’s corporate match, the company was able to write a check to SWAG totaling $3,053.

At the end of the two-week donation drive, Infinite Energy sponsored SWAG’s Step Up to Kindergarten event for local families. Eight Infinite Energy employees helped out at the event, scooping ice cream for the attendees and organizing school supplies.

The event allowed parents to sign their children up for school and meet school teachers and staff. The children could also receive their physicals and immunizations at the health clinic across the street. Children left the event with new backpacks filled with the school supplies donated by Infinite Energy employees.

Infinite Energy believes education can provide the biggest long-term impact for local communities and focuses its corporate citizenship efforts on all students, beginning with early learning. Employees receive eight hours of paid volunteer time each year to use for approved events and organizations like SWAG’s Step Up to Kindergarten ice cream social.
