Gwinnett County Graduates Move to Next Chapter

Gwinnett County graduates college scholarship steam

Two more Gwinnett County graduates will be off to college soon. And both will have Infinite Energy scholarships to help get them started.

Each year, we award two $2,500 scholarships to Gwinnett County graduates planning to pursue STEAM fields. STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.

This week, we caught up with scholarship recipient Maria A. before she heads off to the University of Georgia this fall.

“It’s an honor to be a scholarship winner,” Maria said, adding that scholarships are an important way for young people to move ahead in life.

Maria plans to study—and is passionate about—the biological sciences. She hopes to one day become a medical doctor. She said she has a particular interest in integrative and regenerative medicine.

“My dream is to go to a third-world country or maybe even my own, Ecuador, and help the needy by starting a hospital.”

Maria said she was inspired by her parents. Both are from Ecuador and at one time had an interest in studying medicine. They knew it could make a difference in people’s lives, she said.

That enthusiasm to do good things for others rubbed off on Maria. But she’s also looking forward to being a part of new advances a field such as medicine offers.

“I know technology is advancing, so I am really excited to do a lot of investigation and future research, especially at UGA because they have a lot of research facilities.”

And Maria wants to set an example, too.

“I hope to also be an inspiration to my little brother and the rest of my family in Ecuador and to others in the community and the Hispanic community to pursue education.”

At Infinite Energy, we’re sure Maria will be an inspiration. And we wish her much success in her studies and future endeavors.
