National Techies Day Recognized October 3

October 3 is National Techies Day, a time to celebrate the many technology professionals who make it possible for the rest of us to do our jobs each day. In honor of that, we sat down with Infinite Energy telephony analyst Nick I. He told us a little about himself and gave us the scoop on what he does at Infinite Energy.

How long have you been at Infinite Energy? What brought you here?

I’ve been here just over two years. While still at my last job, I heard about the company from a friend who had spent time here as an intern. He told me it was a place people are proud to work—the type of company that cares as much about the people and community as they do success. I did some looking around, and it was true. I wanted to be a part of a company that “gets it,” and Infinite Energy is that company.

I’ve been hearing the term “telephony” for years, but I don’t really know what it is. Tell me more.

Telephony focuses on the development, application and deployment of telecommunication systems and services. The telephony team works hard to keep our onsite contact center and corporate telephone systems up and ready. Some days, I spend a large part of the day working with the different teams to ensure they’re getting what they need to best help customers. And when things break, I fix them as quickly as possible.

How’d you get into that?

I’ve always been a curious person who wants to know how things work. And if it’s a gadget, look out! When I was a kid, I remember my father bringing home our family’s first VCR—this box with wires, lights and buttons. I was in awe. It was the coolest thing I’d ever seen, and it played movies! But, being the curious type, I had to know how it worked. I think I was about an hour in to taking it apart when my mother walked in the room, gave me this look and said, “You have until your father gets home to get in back together.” Since then, I guess you could say, I’ve had a love for technology. And for the record, that VCR still works. Later, studying technology in college just felt natural. I feel fortunate to have a career I enjoy.

What’s the best part about working here?

It’s a nice place to be. I get to feel like I’m doing good things in the world. I enjoy the work and the people I’m surrounded by.

What do you do when you’re not here?

When I am not at work, I enjoy chess, video games, camping at the springs with my family and trying to keep up with four very creative and energetic boys.
