For businesses, it’s the receptionists who are often responsible for that ever-important first impression when someone walks through the front door. But their responsibilities don’t end there. They have to be a jack-of-all-trades, too, performing their usual work and lending a hand wherever needed to help keep operations running smoothly.
This week, in recognition of National Receptionist Day on May 9, we caught up with our own right-hand woman, administrative assistant Carey S.
How long have you worked here, Carey?
November 14 will make 12 years. And it doesn’t feel like it’s been that long!
Can you give us the rundown of a typical day?
Well, in short, I handle the incoming calls, assist new candidates, schedule massage sessions, assist my team members in Human Resources with various duties, as well as assist all the employees with any of their needs. And I greet visitors.
What’s the best part about working at Infinite? What brings you back day after day?
I get to be me! I have always lived by a “soar like an eagle” philosophy since I was in my early teens. I like approaching folks with warmth and lightheartedness to put them at ease like we’ve been best friends forever. I like to see them walk away with a feeling that I’ve lightened their hearts and lifted their spirits just a little. And it’s not a matter of what brings me back day after day. I explain it to new candidates this way,” When I go home, I’m going to work. And when I come to work, I’m coming home.” That’s what it feels like working for Infinite.
What kinds of things do you do when you’re not here? Hobbies? Interests?
I quilt and have taken up painting. I enjoy my two labs, Bella Luna and Java. And I enjoy talking with young people, challenging their brains to think outside the box when it comes to life.
