Celebrating Our Administrative Professionals

April 26 is Administrative Professionals Day, when many recognize the support and expertise these hard workers bring to offices everywhere every day. In keeping with that, we wanted to highlight Mary F., Infinite Energy’s own senior executive assistant. We sat down with her recently, and here’s what she had to say:

How long have you worked at Infinite Energy and what brought you here? What keeps you here?

I’ve worked at Infinite Energy for nearly four years. For a borderline millennial, I think that’s a long time! I initially learned about Infinite Energy at a job fair. I was researching the best companies to work for in Gainesville and was blown away by the culture and plethora of benefits. Infinite will hopefully be the last place I ever work, precisely for the reasons that attracted me to our company in the first place.

Describe a typical day at work?

Well, the word “typical” definitely doesn’t describe my day, which I’m thankful for. If I had to do the same exact thing every day, I think I would explode. What I do every day boils down to helping my team be successful. We each have strengths and weaknesses. I like to think that by using my strengths—being analytical and organized—I free up my team members to use their strengths.

What are the biggest challenges as administrative professionals?

My biggest challenge is being patient. In order to execute on multiple fronts effectively and timely, I must depend on others to do the same. In order to mitigate any shortfalls, I try to outline my expectations in terms of time, most critically. I find that when I rush, or fail to outline expectations, things go awry.

What’s the funniest thing you’ve had/seen happen at Infinite Energy?

The funniest thing I’ve seen here is, by far, two employees’ rendition of a Jimmy Fallon lip sync battle where Tom Cruise sings “Can’t Feel My Face”. Words cannot describe the dance moves I didn’t even know existed. All I can say is my cheeks hurt from laughing so much.

When you’re not here, what keeps you entertained and busy?

My family. For the past few weeks, our 4 ½-year-old son has requested that we play soccer after dinner. It’s certainly entertaining watching him think of ways to get the ball past me; he and my husband, Jason, play on one team, and I’m on my own team. Brent comes up with a new strategy every day, usually involving some sort of trick. I think we laugh more than anything at the fact he thinks he’s getting away with something.
